Geo-licious

The Geo's registration ran out in March.  We needed it to do safety testing & emissions testing.  We failed the emissions testing for something. Wes did not have time to fix it. The man said he would charge us $20 to fix it.  We tried to bring it back to him to have him fix it. However, the man wasn't there when we went back. Finally, Weston was able to get a second to take it in yesterday.
The day we took it in to get it inspected (the first time) the handle on the driver's door broke.  A couple weeks ago we took apart the door & realized it's the plastic handle that is broken. So, we've been searching for a geo handle for an affordable price. One Auto Zone wanted to charge $60...uh nope.
With all the medical bills this month, coupled with Weston's EMT costs & the tuition costs for his internship coming up & Rent next week... that door handle will have to wait!
However, check out this handsome handyman of mine!

You can see my contribution here. Hahah no, this is my last picture, because I got up & helped him & we successfully got the door apart & before going to AutoZone got it back together.

Surgery

So April 3 I had surgery.
It was awesome.
Mostly because this hospital gown is hi-tech.
It had a ventilation system. It was a 3 layer hospital gown(thick & bulky) & I was sweating in it bc it was plastic lined.
Then the nurse that attempted my IV came in & plugged this vacuum hose looking pipe into that hole underneath that flap over my leg & it blew air into the gown & it was like my own personal A/C unit. Or after they were finished with the 4 attempts at IV's my very own heater!
Party!

Smarty Pants!

I have a smarty pants husband on my hands!
He was accepted into the paramedic program!

Seriously an answer to prayers!

He is so incredible & doing SO well in school!

That program has less than a 50% acceptance rate & WESTON was accepted.

He is soooo thrilled! This has such an awesome affect on our future...

Now our plans (now that we can make plans) include the following:
Wes will have 19 credit hours in his program for the fall semester & then winter semester is only 12 credit hours of class. & 1000 hours of clinicals.
YES, you read that right, ONE THOUSAND.
that comes to 65 hrs/week. uhh..on top of class. He wont be sleeping. UFRA will schedule his clinicals for him & they will be 24 hr shifts at various ERs, L&D wards, ORs, Fire Departments, etc!

He is so thrilled!
He has lots to study up on this summer to get all prepared, but that'll give him something to do in all his spare time with wildland firefighting...hahah gosh. Busy boy!

So he'll test for his national cert with paramedic in April of next year & he'll be applying to full time positions around the country during the beginning of next year & also apply back to hot shot crews & we'll compare options of employment. If he gets hired by a fire dept we'll move for that job & then he'll finish his degree online.  All of the rest of his college courses are available online & some of his major core classes are only offered online. He also has plans to get an ASN degree so he can be a flight nurse. I don't know, the options are endless. We're also considering the SEALs again. Ah, just lots to think about & lots of opportunities for this awesome man of mine! Anyways that's an update!

Waiting...

We've got a few waiting games going on currently.

They are so fun.

Especially when we are counseled by church leaders to live now & not in the future. Sometime's that is tough though.

I won't share all our waiting games with you, but a more immediate one is HUGE.

Weston's Paramedic Program application is in & we are now waiting to hear back. He should hear back by next week. Wow, we have been sitting on the edge of our chairs for this one.

Weston is an unlikely candidate for 1 reason, he will have the minimum requirements for medical experience.

The minimum requirements for the Paramedic program application were:

  • 4 months of EMT-B license before Paramedic program begins
  • Anat/Phys
  • Math
  • English
  • 3 letters of recommendation
  • Paid medical experience
  • Volunteer medical experience
  • Letter of intent
  • GPA
  • Number of credits completed
  • Transcripts
  • Driver's License
  • CPR Cert
So, he has the class requirements fulfilled, he is doing the math & Anat/Phys & EMT-B course currently.
We collected his transcripts & filled out the application forms.  He wrote his letter of intent, which was phenomenal, by the way.  He collected letters of recommendation from 3 very generous people.  Joe Williams, former fire boss, President Hutchings, mission president, & Brandon Jensen, former fire boss.

Each person sent Weston a copy of the letter as well. Wow, they were powerful & spoke such great words of Weston, but were very honest, which says a lot about the person for being so thoughtful writing it & a lot about Weston for honestly receiving phenomenal marks from people he worked for & with directly.  He has Wildland firefighting experience & has now been hired onto a hotshots crew for this summer.

Things change so quickly.  I'll fill you in on that next.

He has a good GPA, not a 4.0, but definitely good.  He has little volunteer medical experience, but everyone who he volunteered for & worked with all highly recommended him. Including the fire chief at an Orem fire station, who is friends with the paramedic board director.... & he has no paid medical experience. So basically the odds are for & against us.

Weston turned in his application & got an interview & had to do a physical test & some other written tests. Meanwhile he's been finishing up the patient assessments that he had to do for EMT requirements.  HE had to do 100. He could not use the same person, but 4 times (unless pediatrics or infants). It was a challenge, props to everyone who played victim for him & Kristin & Joel for donating their baby for his infant patient assessments & to Jacob for volunteering his body for the pediatric assessments. Golly, it took a lot of work, but Weston accomplished them all! & my blood pressure is perfect!

Weston had full intentions of applying for the paramedic program this spring. However, he got a little nervous when he started talking to people about it who thought he was totally nuts for applying this early into his emergency services courses.  I encouraged him to apply, even with him not being an EMT-I(intermediate).  I figured there was nothing to lose, except he had to do a TON of work to get this application in.  Including finding out that his driver's license expired the day before the application was due, bc he turned 25.  & he was  so slammed with school work that he did not even want to think about DMV junk, it was much easier just to sit in the passenger seat for a few days till he could get his head above water. However, he collected all his necessities & got his DMV stuff worked out & got a new driver's license on the same day the application was due. It was a zoo at our house. But I am so proud of Weston for working SO hard in school & all the work it takes to get his application in.  Now we're praying he makes it in & that he does well on his finals so that he meets the grade requirements for the Paramedic pre-req's that he is currently taking. Eeks!

It is an extremely competitive program & Wes does not have the medical resume that most he is up against have.  So, please pray for him/us that he gets in!

The Paramedic program is 2 semesters long. & extremely busy.  It is 19 credits the first semester & 12 credits the second semester, but they do not want him taking any other courses with his second semester because he has to get 1,000 hours of clinicals. Whoa.  So, that's our plan. However, after he has his paramedic certification he can start applying for big dog jobs & either keep going to school at UVU, or follow a job & then finish his degree online.  There are so many options, but I am so proud of Weston.

Now, update on his fire job this season. Weston applied for a job with Hotshots up in Draper in January. He had an interview with them, just like he did last summer. He walked in to bring them his application & they remembered his name from last year...in an interview. Amazing.  He applied & interviewed with them last summer, but they did not hire him, they don't like hiring students, because they have to return to school before the season is over.  So, he applied & interviewed with them again this year, & again they told him they didn't hire him last year because he's a student.  They told him the same thing this year. He was bummed, but still had his application in with Squad 8-1 in Spanish Fork who he worked with last season.

The U.S. Forest Service has this new thing for "diversity."  Do not get me wrong, I love the diversity of our country, I love that we are a melting pot & I have a ton of friends that were not born in the U.S.  I have no problem with that, my problem is with reverse racism.  Weston literally almost did not get a job on his fire squad this season. So, his boss, Joe, went up to bat for him. He told the way high up people that Weston was a great employee, etc. & that he wants Weston back on his squad this season.  Miraculously Weston got the job & got hired on with Joe.

Last week Weston got a call from the Hotshots.  He got hired. Oh my goodness..... this was a moral dilemma if there every was one. Joe sticks his neck out for Weston, & then Weston gets this other job which will be a huge career booster for him & resume builder.  (Hotshots are a big deal, Deej, Wes said he can now come present to your class on Hotshots!)  Weston did not want to let Joe down. Joe is a great man with full intent to help others & he has definitely helped us & Weston out with various things.  Weston felt comfortable calling Joe & getting advice on what to do, knowing that Joe would be honest.  Joe told Weston that he obviously wants him on his squad, but that Weston needs to do what is best for his career & family.  Wow, what a great man.  We prayed about it in the 10 hours we had to make the decision.  I left the decision to Weston, I really had no opinion or inspirations of which one is best & let's be honest, he's the one that will be working the job.  Weston decided that hotshots is what I needed to do. He called Wade & accepted the offer & then called Joe & told him about his decision.

We have been so blessed that Weston has these different opportunities & incredible people that he works with!

10 high fives for you if you actually read all that & 5 high fives if you didn't make it, but that's basically what ha been consuming our lives lately.

love you all & will update pictures lata playas!

Loco week!

HAPPY EASTER!

Belated. but who doesn't love leftover holiday fun?

I hope everyone was able to have some self reflection this weekend! I did! I thought about myself & how I am trying to be like Christ & how I will start being better to be more like Christ.  I am so grateful for Him atoning for our sins & making it possible for us to live with Them again.  I love my Savior!

Also, happy finals week to all you studientos!  Sometimes I miss my school days. Then exam time comes & I don't.

This past week:

I had a surgery. Don't ask, I promise you don't want to know.
Weston's mom stayed with me. The recovery was great & I was going to go back to work on Thursday.
But Wednesday a little thing called the sun was out & I had to read my book outside, not realizing that the medication in my IV from the day before was going to make my skin SCALD in mild sun. So Thursday I stayed home from work because of a sunburn. Are you proud, Momma?

Easter was supposed to be spent in Wayne County, but instead we spent @ Huntsmans Cancer Institute w/ this poo poo head.

& then after we went to Dani's for a delishess delicious Easter meal with my family, aka seester & brudder.

It was a family & fun filled weekend!

The sun has been coming out & life just seems even grander!  & food tastes even better! & the sky is EVEN bluer! Ah I love Summer time. I think I am a flower.
I DIE in the winter.
Seriously, I do not come out of the house.
& then Spring brings happiness.
Summer brings even more happiness
Fall a sense of relief from the heat slash I love wearing sweaters
& then the dreaded winter again.

I'm pretty sure everyone in the world loves summer.
Even Weston. Him & I for different reasons.

He imagines the mountains on fire & I imagine myself on the lake.
Hey, it's all good though.

Life is good & a little crazy, as always but we are doing well.

Can I brag on Weston right now?

He seriously just makes me so proud.
He is such a hard worker & that showed in his INCREDIBLE letters of recommendation he received for his Paramedic application.
It's the kind words of the man that he is remodeling a house with who wishes Weston was his son.
& it is the captain of the fire house Weston did ride-alongs with says that Weston was the best EMT student they have had come & do ride-alongs with and that he was going to put in a good word for Wes w/ the Paramedic head guy with UFRA. Incredible.

Yes, Weston is working with very kind people who are sweet enough to give such kind words. Yet, he deserves them all. He is a hard worker, the kindest man you'll meet & you better believe I can't wait to see his gentle self with our baby on his knee. That will be a tender day.

Anyways, I'm just really proud of Weston & the hard work and dedication he shows even for the simplest & smallest jobs/tasks. Sometimes I want to rush him along bc he is really careful to be sure to do every single necessary thing, but it's what makes him so awesome & everything else. He is great. He does not cut corners. He goes above & beyond.

Also, have I told you?

We're the Cub Scout leaders!

hahah oh my gosh! I'm so excited! Weston's so pumped about it (& he's hoping he can take the 8 yr olds to camp in the desert for a week & for 50 mile hikes, but let's be honest, I'm there for, so the little guys have time to play with glitter, too!)

& we LOVE Salem.
We LOVE our ward.
We LOVE our neighbors.

These are the first people I've met in Utah that meet my TN hospitality standards. They're amazing.

LOVE it!

Sorry so many words & no pictures. That's a new woe to not having the internet at home. A pictureless blog.
I'm working on finding a cure for that!

Cute

After Spencie's endowment we went to Aunt Mary's casa.

It was wild. As you can tell!

I've got issues.

My roots are grown out. As in, my hair has not been highlighted since last summer. LAST SUMMER. Ah. I know you all screamed with me, right then.

I like to imagine that I'm looking something like this right now:
No, I don't do the sexy ombre look, mine is more like this:

Sorry, Drew, you're scaring the small children.

I'm lazy & not rotating the picture, but you can see my awesome dishrag roots here. Yum.

Last night  we played games.
I completely owned Wes.

I was proud & made this face:

Only not at all, it was a lot more intense & extra cheesed. & probably had a few double chins attached.

Wes replies with: "OH, let's play 'see who can make the ugliest face!'"

I'm inspiring.

It's Fire Time!

Wes is amazing. He just is.
He is a seriously hard worker who loves hard labor jobs.
He is as strong as an ox. & bench presses me. It's cool.
He has a smile that lights up a whole room, not just me.
He's working so hard in school and doing a great job, & it is not his strong point, but he's excelling!
He's the greatest support.
We work together well.
I whine at him. & he is still nice.

Anyways, he's awesome.

Last week we went to Vegas. It was my first time.  I was so nervous & please don't judge but I have never had any desire to go there. The whole name "Sin City" is strangely unappealing to me...

However, my parents were coming to town for Spencie to go through the temple on Saturday & my dad had a business trip to Vegas that week.  My mom had a voucher with Frontier & decided to join Pops for an early vacation in Vegas then travel up to Provo Friday night.  Weston was so excited for them & it was his spring break. & I haven't used any vacation days since I became full time here in August of last year.  My vacation time doesn't accrue very rapidly, so these days are gold to me.

I save them up for one purpose: to spend time with my immediate family from TN, because I never get to see them & let's be honest, I haven't visited TN since Christmas 2010. I have not been home in over a year. It breaks my heart!

Anyways, so in honor of the sweet hubs DYING to have a cool spring break & not work the whole time & just go back to school we decided to present my parents with an awesome plan of us joining them in Vegas!  They thought it was great! I ended up being sick last week. I was bummed, but it ended up perfect, because I had to take a sick day & we were able to go to Vegas early! I didn't take any pictures while we were there..but my mom did, so I'll try to steal them & post them on here! Also, that city was really cool! It is a lot cleaner than New York was, & a lot less crowded!  However, I was not a fan of the awful pictures strewed across the street. I was disgusted. But we got to tour everything & my cousin Jeff came to see us twice while we were down there. He is stationed at the Air Force base there in town & then on our way back to Utah we went to Henderson to visit my aunt, uncle & cousins over there!  It was so good to see everyone!

We stayed at the MGM Grand & wow that place was loco. The whole base floor had shops & a giant casino & restaurants & all sorts of things, I have never been in such a huge hotel! btw, we stayed on the 28th floor...!

We hit some GREAT outlet shops & the hubs is now looking quite handsome in his new clothes!

Saturday was Spencie's endowment session. It was so special & afterwards we had an awesome family gathering at Aunt Mary's where 8 of my dad's 15 siblings all came & their significant others, kids, etc. It was so fun. & so crazy just like family gatherings always are.  Oh my amazing & outrageous family.  & so many belly laughs. Good golly!

We went to see War Horse that night at Movies 8. It was so good! Sunday we went to Spencie's ward & I discovered corn starch is a fantastic replacement for baby powder or dry shampoo for those days you just don't have time to wash the hair!  That night we had our birthday celebration! Dani's birthday was the 10, Spencie's came up on the 21 & Wes' is on the 31.  It was so fun! We had ice cream & Killer Brownies.

Nom.  Monday I worked & then Momma & I went to an adorable quilt shop in Springville. I fell in love. I will be buying all quilting fabric from there. & then some!

I'm sorry for the neglect folks, it makes for big long wordy updates.

I will sum this one up quickly,
WE ARE SO BLESSED!

The BYU Accountant program students did our taxes. For free. Amazing.

Also, there were issues with the Forest Service Program & it sent Weston's application to Louisiana & Mississippi, but not to Spanish Fork.

We've been waiting & waiting to hear if he got the job or atleast an interview.  Joe had to wait on a lot of stuff from the higher-ups.  So it was just a waiting game. While in Vegas, Joe called Wes & informed him that his application wasn't in the applicant pull for a GS-4 which is what Weston is on the Federal Pay scale.  So, Joe wrote the Forest Service people & told them about the situation. Wes also called head-quarters in Albuquerque and they opened a case about the application going to the wrong place. We then found out he could be hired more likely as a GS-3.  I was so sad, because Weston wanted this job SO bad. He loves his squad & the intensity they bring.  He still wanted to do it as a GS-3. So then began the praying & waiting process to hear about the  news from the Forest Service's decision.

Joe called Wes yesterday & informed him that he got the spot as a GS-4.
WE ARE SO BLESSED.

Wes texted it to me because he was in his EMT class when Joe called, but I called him right away & that boy was so giddy telling me about getting the job & Joe's phone call.

Anyway we are constantly being blessed left & right!

It's extremely busy around our parts! I've started decorating our house & hanging things (finally)! & Weston's been studying long during the day & working late into the night at the house in Salem that he's working on remodeling for a guy. It's pretty awesome & is looking really good! Weston is so good at that stuff! He comes  home with the white hair & eyebrows & eyelashes & spackle smeared across his cheek. It's cute.
We are loving having a washer & dryer. It's a welcomed new feature of our casa!

Also, Weston is working on his Paramedic program application that is due next week. He's been collecting the letters of recommendation & filling out his application.  It's a lot of work, but he's handling it well!

Blessings as of late:
Wes got his job back on squad 8-1 this season.
He will be able to get 15 credits of school work done w/ his fire job this summer.
10 for his internship & 5 with 2 other courses online that he'll be doing on top of that.
We use our washer & dryer all the time.
We almost have his Paramedic Program application all done.  Please send prayers our way, we're reeeally trying to get into the fall program.
My medical insurance rocks & my surgery in May should be (hopefully) not too expensive.
My job has amazing benefits as much as I tease that I get bored because of all the down time I get here.
Our landlords are extremely nice.
I wake up to the sound of geese.
I have a husband that treats me like the best thing in his life.
The sun has been shining lately.
Weston is doing SO well in school (including math!)
Wes has found a job that just might be THE dream one. Second to SEALs, of course. It's being a medic for the Nashville SWAT team being contracted out through the Nashville Fire Dept.

Sorry about lagging in the blogging department & the picture department! I have some pictures from the past weekend that I can put up! & next weekend is Weston's birthday so I'll take pictures of that, too! :D

SB'12

How is your spring break going?
Oh, you don't have one? & you haven't had one since high school? Yeah, me neither!

My poor slave husband is getting to do this all week:
(props to hubs for taking precautions w/ the mask...the nagging of "protecting his lungs" from his wife must have bugged him enough baha)
Except for that's a lie, because we're going on a get-away-last-minute 1.5 day trip to Vegas later this week, too.
But that is what the boy's spring break looks like!
He's remodeling a house in Salem. Sweet job & Weston loves it, but still...full time work instead of the beach or a theme park or something?
I thought I'd make this in honor of him:
How are you celebrating Spring Break 2012?
xoxoSBstarvedgirl

3.09.2012

So I'm falling a little behind on life updates for all of you that I know are DYING to know every detail. baha
We have the greatest friends & family that came to help us move!
It started at 7:30a.m. Weston's parents showed up w/ a gazillion breakfast burritos in hand that friends & fam that came to help chowed down on. Wow they are so kind!
Spencer, Taylor, Melissa, Jarica, David, Kevin, & the other David, Bonnie & Mike all came.
WOW. Our friends are work horses! Neeeigh.
We had so much fun, too. We packed & loaded, packed & loaded. & then packed & loaded some more!

Then I went w/ the boys & Bonnie & we unloaded that giant load filling:
Trailor.
Truck.
Truck.
Car.
Yukon.
WOWza. Das a lot of loot.
& the other ladies stayed behind & cleaned the old casa for us to pass our cleaning inspection, we got back to Branbury at about 12:30 & I helped finish cleaning that place SPOTLESS. WOW they had done SO much by the time I got there. & there was still a lot to do when I got there. Embarrassingly nasty. Yes.
& then we were done. Glorious. 1pm we were finished. We locked & loaded the last bit of stuff into the car & went to Pizza Pie Cafe to celebrate. Oh, it was wonderful!
Then Melissa, Joan & I hit Hobby Lobby like it's goin out of style & got 2.5 hours of wedding glory COMPLETE. Hallelujah.
Then we joined the boys at home (Weston had been in Salem since Pizza Pie Cafe unpacking & unpacking!) & played some cards & then did a late night Walmart trip for wedding announcement envelopes. When we got back home we had an envelope stuffing party.
Sunday was amazing. We LOVE our new ward. Unlike our Springville ward, it is friendly, & unlike our Provo ward, it has a ward member over 35.
We left our church building to the most grand view you've ever seen.

Heaven.

Then Joan, Dave, Wes & I had a yummy lunch after church, my amazing black bean soup. Nom.

Janet came & chatted with us for a while too. It was loverly.

Wes & I went out later that afternoon & threw snow balls into the pond & tried our best goose honks to get the geese to come see us. Nope, nada, didn't happen.

But it was so peaceful.

Get this, we have gone to bed every night at 10 p.m. & up wide awake at 6 p.m.
Guess why! It's SILENT there. Seriously, silent.
We go to bed to an occasional goose honk & wake up to the geese & birds.
Strange, I have forgotten the sounds of nature since I moved from TN in 2007.  At 2 a.m. we are used to the sound of tires on blacktop.  Honking hormone driven 18 yr old girls & boys. Honking 24 yr old hormone driven boys. Yelling. Chatting. Music. Bass thumping....you get the idea. We are no longer living in a complex of single folk. It's amazing.

So, our Provo apartment was SO nice.
& about 4 million steps up from our Springville apartment....
Our new apartment is another step up. Seriously. It's awesome.
Here's why:
1.  Washer & Dryer
2.  2 bedrooms. Amazing.
3. A/C
4. A POND
5. A PADDLE BOAT for that POND
6.  Amazing landlords
7. a HUGE bedroom
8. A HUGE bathroom
9. Counter Space
10. Peace & Quiet
11. No newlyweds living upstairs...
12. PRIVACY from people staring down into our windows
13. this one...drum  roll please...we have our own closets. AMAZING.
I stole the big one. It's amazing. & you better believe I filled every inch of that sucker. & Wes got the small one. Half of it has clothes & there are 5 pairs of shoes: running shoes, hiking boots, church shoes, fire boots & snowboard boots. The other half of his closet has his collection of random things & then his workout gear. hahaha I love him so much!

I was really afraid I would hate the commute, I really was, but it isnot even bad. The Lord has been blessing me to be able to go to sleep at night and wake up on time that I can be out the door at 7:30, and I enjoy that wakeup time on the drive to work and the unwind drive on our way home at the end of the day. It gives us uninterrupted time together! Our gas bill has of course increased, but it is worth every penny. We couldn't be more thrilled.

It's amazing, really. We love it.

We are so blessed. Do you want to know why? We have survived the past week with $17 in our checking account. Weston's amazing parents have come to visit & fed us. & helped us move. Uh, is that backwards or what? They come, they work, they feed...us. So awesome.
I get to see my parents next week. & to say I'm excited does not even come close to cutting it! Ah, I love Momma & Pops so much!  Plus, I need help from the tax man...eh, eh, Pops? :)
Anyway, I love you all & I hope you have a noteworthy weekend!
Isn't he the cutest? & doesn't he look exhausted? This was mid unpacking mode. See all the boxes & piles? Yeah, those are gone. We got our whole house unpacked in 4 evenings. AWESOME!

Uh, I'm kind of embarrassed. This is completely me. My dad was in town for about 12 hours a couple weeks ago & he picked Weston & I up at our apartment & I told him i felt bad that he didn't get to put on comfies. & he said "Ah, no, I don't usually wear pajamas to Walmart." bahahah Is that just a Provo thing? I hope not, because I plan on doing that to the Payson Walmart, too.

Thank you, thank you CUC.

We will be taking our services to CUC forever.
We had a big mess with insurance & with 2 MRIs Weston needed last August.
Lots of moolahs.
They have a great low income program.
It saved us. Really.
Thank you Central Utah Clinic.
We are so grateful!

Want to know why my parents are awesome?

So I get a text from Momma this morning that looks like this:
Bella says "hi!"

Bahah first of all the picture is funny enough.
That dog is hilarious. Seriously. She's so funny! & Chase's hands are ginormous.

& Iphones have this weird quirk where if you send a picture text or mass text & another iphone replies it sends the reply to all of the original recipients of the original message from the original sender. Make sense?

That being said, Momma & Pops both have iphones.
& neither of them realize it is sending their reply text to all of the children recipients as well. Gross.
Pops replies with: "Tell Bella "rff rrrrffff rfff"
Momma: "Does that translate to 'she's hot?' Cause she is!"
Pops: "Actually it means 'Why are u looking at my hot wife like that!'"

hahahahha I have been enjoying this conversation all morning.
